DeVilliers Botha, co-founder and COO of Solareff, and Management Committee member of SAPVIA since 2021. As former member of the Johannesburg Bar, DeVilliers uses his extensive experience as a practising Advocate and a Solar industry participant for 13 years, to add value to the industry by actively driving for sensible, enabling, and inclusive regulations.
During the past two years as a Manco member, DeVilliers has represented SAPVIA as lobbyist, presenter and moderator at various government and utility engagements, conferences, and training sessions. As a spokesperson, he also conducted various radio and television interviews on current industry matters. Currently he serves as Chairperson of the Distributed Generation Workgroup, and Vice-Chair of the Extended Producer Responsibility Workgroup.
Historically involved with SAPVIA as member since 2013, DeVilliers served in the following roles in the interest of SAPVIA:
• EG Subcommittee (Vice- Chair) 2014/2015;
• SANS 10142 Workgroup 2015 – 2017;
• PV GreenCard Steering Committee (Chair) 2016/2017;
• Grid Access Subcommittee (Chair) 2016/2017; and
• SSEG Workgroup Chairperson (2020/2021).
DeVilliers is passionate about educating interested parties such as municipalities, insurers and bankers regarding the intricacies, risks and opportunities of Solar PV in South Africa. “An energy activist at heart but a realistic lobbyist in nature.”
